Imphal, February 24 2012:
In spite of all the complaints of election malpractices and overwhelming number of mismatching photographs, the Election Commission of India has finally decided not to conduct any more re-poll in Manipur.
Notably, a large number of photographs of voters taken on polling day were not found matching with their EPIC photographs during photo comparison done in presence of the three ECI-appointed special observers on February 12 and 13 at Imphal.
Earlier, it was speculated that re-poll may be conducted in more than 100 polling stations where large scale mismatching of photographs were detected.
Aborting the earlier plan of holding a consultative meeting between the three special observers and political parties at Imphal on February, the CEO's report on photo comparison was studied by the ECI's full commission at New Delhi.
According to an official source, the CEO has been informed by the ECI that there would not be any more re-poll in Manipur in spite of the visibly damning cases of electoral malpractices and complaints.

However, the ECI has not stated anything about the proxy votes as testified by the mismatching photographs.
Nonetheless, the ECI would soon take a decision on the proxy votes detected in more than 100 polling stations.
Significantly, apart from Congress all other political parties have been urging the ECI not to go for re-poll but exclude all the proxy votes from counting.
