Table topper YDO, Konjeng Leikai suffered 3-2 defeat at the hands of KSC, New Lambulane in the 14th L Sangita Devi Memorial (IW) division I Football League Tournament at mapal kangjeibung.
An outright win today would have guaranteed the Konjeng Leikai outfit the league title and promotion to the higher division but the loss meant outcome of tomorrow's match between GC CRPF, langjing and SICO, Lourembam Leikai would be decisive as victory for the CRPF team would fetch them the title on better goal average compared to KSC.
regardless of tomorrow's result, KSC players today demonstrated they are serious contenders for the title and went for the goal from early in the match even though the first of the game came in the 27th minute through Boithang haokip.
The keenly contested tie saw M Ronel restore parity for YDO in the 30th minute before Boithang notched his second of the match in the 47th and team-mate Seijalal Haokip extend the advantage to 3-1 three minutes later.
K Ingobi successfully converted a penalty award in the 63rd minute that provided a chance for YDO's comeback which was however, denied by the strong KSC defence.
The otherwise exciting duel ended in an uneventful note as YDO players joined by the officials attempted to man-handle the match official.
In another match, SAI RC came from a goal down to outclass YPA, Uripok 4-1 with Ph Kisan (26th), Bishorjit (56th) and Bipinchandra (73rd, 76th).
