Manipur's Commerce and Industries Minister Yumkham Erabot said the existing Manipur Panthoibi Emporium at Baba Kharak Singh Marg and the Manipur Pavilion at Pragati Maidan here would be renovated so that it could be a lasting and add fresh attractive look.
The Minister who also holds portfolio of Food and Civil supplies and Co-operation inspected Manipur Panthoibi Emporium Monday last.
As it required a major repairing, the Minister immediately instructed Engineers of Engineering Cell of Manipur Industrial Development Corporation Ltd to rush to Delhi.
On their arrival, the Minister along with the Engineers further inspected Manipur Emporium yesterday.
As instructed by the Minister to remove the banyan tree perched atop the Emporium Building, the staff of the Emporium rooted out the plant.
Thereafter, the Minister and team of the Engineering Cell inspected the Manipur Pavilion at Pragati Maidan.
The Minister was not satisfied with the existing design of the interior and front view of the pavilion in comparison with other pavilions and insisted on best effort be made.
For promotion and development of handloom and handicrafts of Manipur, Erabot stressed on need for coordination with other departments like Agriculture, Horticulture etc.
as they provide the raw materials.
The Minister observed that Kouna and Chumthang (small type of Kouna) products like mats, mattress, bags, wall hangings, and hats would be of high demand outside Manipur because of its uniqueness.
The Minister said that his department would pay more attention towards production of Kouna products so that it could be exported to other countries.
He also said that he would do his best to streamline Department of Commerce and Industries for development of the industrial sector in Manipur.
Manipur could be a developed State if everyone worked hard sincerely and positively by applying common sense, he added.
