The first instalment of the loan under SBI Thoubal Branch amounting to a total of Rs 39 lakhs have been distributed to 50 fishermen of Sekmaijin and Toupokpi area of Thoubal district.
The loan amount were distributed to the beneficiaries during a simple function at the counting hall of Thoubal DC office.
Speaking at the occasion, Assistant General Manager of SBI AK Debroy said SBI had last year provided Rs 53 crores in agriculture sector for improvement of the economic condition of the people living in rural areas.
In case of Manipur, the bank has been giving special loan for development of fisheries, passion fruits, piggery and crop, he added.
He also appealed to the people to cultivate the habit of repaying the loan amount taken so that such benefits can also be extended to more and more deserving people.
The bank is keeping the target of providing loan amount to the tune of Rs 95.37 lakhs to the fishermen in Manipur, he disclosed.
