Imphal, August 30:
One suspected UG cadre was slain during an encounter with troops of 6th Jat Regiment at Saiton Hayaikon, about 15 kms South East of Moirang police station at around midnight last night.
Three other UG cadres with one injured managed to escape.
According to information received from police, acting on information that some UG cadres were present in Saiton area, troops of 6th Jat Regiment posted at Gorthon village were laying an ambush there.
At the moment, four youths suspected to be UG cadres approached the area.
When the security personnel asked them to halt, they opened fire towards the troops and fled.
Immediately, the troops retaliated and killed one UG cadre while the three others managed to escape with one of them injured.
One AK-47 rifle, two magazines and 42 live rounds were recovered from the slain cadre.
The corpse of the deceased who appeared to be around 20 years of age has been picked up the police and deposited at RIMS morgue.
The deceased with medium complexion has his ears pierced and hair cut short.
A bullet which hit him in the chest exited.
Another bullet mark was also observed on the right side of the chin.
He is clad in a black shirt embossed with the word Nike above a blue coloured T shirtand a maroon track pant.
Even as security personnel launched an extensive search operation till this morning following information that the injured cadre had also died, the corpse could not be recovered till the time of filing this report.
