Imphal, August 30:
Following eruption of violent protest by the local people and parental family over the death of a woman at Nilakuthi Makha Leikai under Heingang police station at about 6.30 pm yesterday, the husband of the deceased woman has been pulled up by the police.
The deceased woman is identified as Thokchom ongbi Hema (32) w/o Tenden of Nilakuthi Makha Leikai.
She hailed from Langmeithet in Thoubal district.
At about 9.30 am yesterday, Hema was reportedly found unconscious in her bed following which she was rushed to Catholic Medical Centre, Koirengei by Tenden, his 12 year old daughter and one Sonia of the neighbourhood.
As the doctors suspected internal bleeding in the head of Hema, Tenden was told that a CT scan was necessary.
However, instead of treating her there, Tenden took his wife to RIMS.
Hema succumbed at about 6.30 pm in RIMS.
Hema was found unconscious only when people of the neighbourhood were alerted by her 12 year old daughter about her mother breaking down.
Moreover, Tenden allegedly thrashed his wife in the night of August 28 after closing the door of their room.
These incidents aroused suspicion among the neighbouring people.
As such, Tenden and his family were prohibited from cremating the corpse of Hema and they (people of the neighbourhood) informed the parental family of Hema today morning.
As people observed the corpse, they found coalesced blood in Hema's mouth besides bruises on both the arms.
This added to the suspicion of the people and they immediately informed Heingang police.
After the arrival police, the corpse was taken to RIMS morgue while Tenden was taken to police custody.
On completion of post mortem, the corpse was handed over to the younger brother of Hema and the local people.
On the other hand, Tenden disclosed that he did hit Hema on her arms as she perturbed him while he was talking with another woman on mobile phone but never on the head.
However, during post mortem examination today, internal bleeding was observed inside the brain.
It is reported that Tenden escaped unhurt when he was shot by some UG cadres for bootlegging a few years back.
He is still engaged in bootlegging.
Tenden has four daughters.
