In memory of Ak Gyanendra, who was a sports journalist of Imphal Free Press, the Summerset Cricket Club, Naoria Pakhanglakpa will confer Sports Journalist award to sports reporter of print and electronic media.
The award, carrying an amount of Rs 5000, would be presented on the closing day of the 4th Journalist Ak Gyanendra Memorial Cash Prize Cricket Tournament to be held from December 9 till January 9 next.
Informing on the proposed sports journalist award during a media briefing at Manipur Press Club yesterday founder president of Summerset Cricket Club Budha Chingtham and other Club functionaries stated that the champion team of cricket tournament would be awarded Rs 15,000 followed by Rs 8000 for the runners-up.
Moreover there would also be cash prize of Rs 1500 for the man of the series winner and Rs 1000 each to man of the match winners.
The Club members, besides highlighting that efforts are being made to popularise cricket in the State, also conveyed that plans are afoot to host a leather-ball Twenty 20 cricket tournament from next year with the approval of Manipur Cricket Association.
Ak Gyanendra passed away on January 20, 2002 in a motor accident.
