Imphal, October 26 2008:
A newly constructed market shed at Chingmai Khunou in Senapati district was handed over to the people by ICHAM president N Rajendra, PMM president Dr PT Hitson and PTM president Dhanii.
The market shed was constructed by the Manipur Development Society at the cost of Rs 4.14 lakhs.
Chingmai Khunou is a village located about 40 kms North East of Tadubi and is inhabited by around 200 households.

According to the village chairman Makho, the village produces abundant quantity of vegetables like cauliflower, potato, beans, peas relatively early.
Before the Kharif season is over, the village produces such Rabi crops in advance and abundantly.
Cabbage is available at Rs 5 per Kg and potato Rs 6 per Kg in the village.
The village also produces banana, guava and passion in abundant quantity.
While banana is sold at Rs 5 per bunch, there is no buyer for guava and passion fruit in the village.
Due to lack of communication infrastructure and market facility, the villagers are unable to take any benefit from the various vegetables and fruits produced abundantly in the village, said Makho.
There is a market for the villagers only once in a week every Saturday.
Earlier, there was no customer for the vegetables sold only once in a week.
However, since some time back, learning about the cheap prices of the vegetables sold there, people from neighbouring villages like Phaibom Khullen, Phaibom Khunou, Phaibom Lower, Chingrei, Laii, Chingmai Khullen, New Laii, Saraphar, Kataphumei, Kangom, Tungjoi etc come to buy vegetables from the Saturday market.
Speaking at the occasion, village chairman Makho expressed gratitude to ICHAM for reaching out to the village while former Ministers and MLAs had continuously failed to fulfil their promises to take up various development programmes in the village.
ICHAM has been going into the remote areas of the hill districts to highlight the pitiable conditions of the people there ever since its formation.
It has covered many other villages too.
