The Meetei National Assembly (MNA( today appealed MLAs of the state Assembly to table a bill in the upcoming July session of the Assembly with regard to the recognition of Meetei following Sanamahi religion scheduled to commence from July 03 next.
A statement signed by general secretary, Ch Ibomcha of the body today decreid the keeping of the Sanamahi within the category of Manipuri Hindu and demanded separate status for them.
The statement expressed that according to the Article 29 (1) of the Indian Constitution, the state authority ought to ponder on the matter that the ethnic indigenous people of the state, Meetei (Sanamahi) which has all its own religion, culture and heritage ought to be recognized and given all rights and facilities as a community.
