A one-day workshop on Tracking the Work of MPs and MLAs was held today at the Conference Hall of the Manipur Press Club here which was jointly organised by the All Manipur Working Journalist Union and Parliamentary Research Service (PRS) Legislative Service.
Programme Coordinator of the PRS Legislative Service, Chakshu Roy spoke on awareness about the work of MPs and MLAs.
Deliberate discussion on the MP Local Area Development Fund also marked the workshop.
The works of PRS in studying and observing what has an MP did in the Parliament, what he spoke for his state, etc were shown to participating journalists through a slide show.
Rai also has shown through a slide show that during the period 2004-09, Outer Manipur MP, Mani Charenamei had attended 90 percent of the sittings of the Parliament while Inner MP Dr T Meinya attended 96 percent of the sittings.
Mani had raised 58 questions while Meinya had asked 106 questions during the sittings.
The PRS has also collected information on how the 2 crore MPLADS were used by respective MPs.

Chakshu Rai also stressed on the need to dig the 30 lakh local area development fund of the MLAs of the state.
Roy said several MPs have also benefited the PRS.
The PRS has work proposals of the MPs and the duties of MPs.
It also has information about the budget, capital expenditure, revenue expenditure, plan expenditure, non-plan expenditure, etc which the journalists ought to know as well, Rai added.
Interaction with the journalists was another highlight of the workshop.
