The Ngami Sinmi Kanba Lup today demanded that compensation for 500 atha phums should be handed over to the body while reacting to the reported statement of the MLA of Thanga Assembly Constituency, T Mangibabu who announced that compensation for only 220 will be given.
Speaking at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, Imphal, president of the Ngami Sinmi Kanba Lup, Thanga, Heisnam Mangolsana informed that MLA Mangibabu has announced that compensation to only 220 atha phums will be given and if given, it will be done after a committee formed by his workers access and said that out of 800 atha phums at Thanga Heishnam Leikai compensation for 500 should be handed over to the body.
In the move to take out the atha phums taken up by the Loktak Development Authority (LDA), in 2006, even though there are 800 atha phums at Heishnam Leikai, the authority agreed reported having only 36 atha phums.
Responding to the demand of the villagers, later the number of atha phums to be compensated was increased to 220 under the initiative of the MLA T Mangibabu against villagers' demand of compensation to 500, he said.
After the agreement on the number of atha phums was brought about, the MLA stick to the stand that the compensation will be distributed through a committee formed by his workers, he added.
Secretary of the All Thanga Area Meira Paibi Organisation, Heishnam Ashangbi who also present in the press conference demanded that the compensation should be handed over to Ngami Sinmi Kanba Lup.
If not fulfill the demand, they will not received the compensation.
