The State Cabinet has approved a new project to draw water from Thoubal Dam till Imphal.
A Cabinet meeting held today with the Chief Minister in the chair decided to lobby with Central Government to include the project in the UPA's 100 Days programme.
The project to draw water from Thoubal Dam till Imphal for a distance of around 25 kms would include a tunnel with a length of 2 kms through Nongmaiching hills, informed a senior Minister of the SPF Government.
While the IFCD has been entrusted to execute the project, PHED has been directed to built a treatment plant at Imphal.
PHED will also look after distribution of drinking water to public.
The Cabinet meeting also agreed on amending MPS/MCS rules.
According to the amended rules, pay-scale of a newly recruited MCS/MPS officer would be between Rs 10650-15850 on completion of five years in service.
Further the existing criteria of 13 years' service before being promoted to the rank of Junior Administrative Grade would be reduced to 10 years.
On completion of 15 years in service, MCS/MPS officers will be awarded Selection Grade.
They will be given Super Time Scale when they complete 17 years of regular service as MCS/MPS officers.
The Cabinet also gave consent to categorise the existing 132 officiating officials in Fishery Department as Contract employees.
Their service will be regularised as and when vacant posts are available.
The meeting also agreed on formulating a scheme in order to absorb the contract workers as regular employees, conveyed the Minister.
