Imphal, June 29 2009:
Perceiving serious threats to some people resulting from false information fed to commandos, a large number of people took a protest rally in Khangabok area today.
The protesters also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding befitting legal action against those involved in providing misleading and false information to police commandos.
However, as the protest rally which started from Khangabok Kha-Khundol Primary School ground approached NH-39, the protesters were blocked by police and herded together at Khangabok BASU ground.
Later, some representatives of the protesters were allowed to proceed and submit their memorandum to the Chief Minister.
According to information received by press, Thoubal police commandos were informed that one Khundrakpam Brojen of Khangabok Mayai Leikai has been abducted by Khangabok Part-III GP Pradhan M Mangoljao, Tentha GP Pradhan M Ibomcha, Tentha GP Member S Doren and one M Bimol of Khangabok Lamlong Bazar Makha Leikai on June 27 .
Acting on the information, police commandos raided several houses at Khangabok Lamlong Makha Leikai vandalising household articles and properties in the process.
The commandos later withdrew after learning that the information they received was false.
However, police failed to take up any action against Khundrakpam Brojen who allegedly fed the baseless information.
A public meeting was also held on the matter at Khangabok Kha Khundol Primary School ground yesterday.
The meeting adopted several resolutions which included condemnation of the malicious acts of Brojen, submission of a written appeal to Police Department to avoid such untoward incidents resulting from false information and urging upon the authority to punish Brojen.
It also resolved to launch various forms of agitation in case the authority condones Brojen.
