The Ministry of Rural Development released Grants-in-aid amounting to Rs 7.16 crores as balance of the first instalment to five districts of Manipur for implementation of the Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana (SGRY) during the current financial year 2007-08.
According to the sources of the Ministry, the five districts receiving the balance of the first instalment under SGRY are Imphal West (Rs 12.28 lakhs), Senapati (Rs 194.31 lakhs), Thoubal (Rs 150.68 lakhs), Ukhrul (Rs 114.22 lakhs) and Imphal East (Rs 135.29 lakhs).
The part of the first instalment having a total amount of Rs 2.26 crores were released recently to the five districts and the allotted amount are Imphal West-Rs 37.87 lakhs, Senapati-Rs 45.81 lakhs, Thoubal-Rs 44.49 lakhs, Ukhrul-Rs 50.69 lakhs and Imphal East-Rs 47.21 lakhs.
The fund allocated by the Ministry for these districts under the scheme for the year 2007-08 was Rs 15.71 crore.
A sum of Rs 266.92 lakhs was earmarked for Imphal West, Rs 400.20 lakhs for Senapati, Rs 325.29 lakhs for Thoubal, Rs 274.85 lakhs for Ukhrul and Rs 304.16 lakhs for Imphal East during the year 2007-08.The Ministry of Rural Development has recently approved the release of 3624 MT of common rice during the current year 2007-08 to those five districts of Manipur through FCI depots in the State under the scheme.
Under the scheme, Imphal West would get 616 MT of rice, Senapati would get 923 MT of rice, Thoubal would get 705 MT of rice, Ukhrul would get 634 MT of rice and Imphal East 701 MT of rice.
During the last financial year 2006-07, 19.98 lakhs mandays of employment were generated in Manipur utilising Rs 1333.59 lakhs under the SGRY scheme.
Launched in September 25, 2001, the scheme provides a greater thrust to additional wage employment, infrastructural development and food security in the rural areas.
It also provides facility to all the rural poor who are in need of employment and are willing to take up manual or unskilled work in and around his or her village and habitation.
