Imphal, June 27:
Taking strong exception to the alleged threat issued by one self identified KYKL cadre against the president of the Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur through telephone, many Meira Paibi organisations and women societies have come out with strong condemnations against the unwarranted threat.
In a statement, the Mayai Lambi Meira Paibisingi Lup (MALAMPAL) noted that intimidating the president of Poirei Leimarol for helping displaced families of Langol Laimanai after they were evicted from their homes by unidentified armed persons is uncalled for and is tantamount to victimising the hapless families again.
Taking serious note of the threat, "How long can the Poirei Leimarol protect the displaced families", the MALAMPAL has appealed to all parties concerned to resolve the issue amicably at the earliest so that the terrified people of the land can live in peace.
Concurring the same view, the Poirei Ita Meira Paibi Apunba Lup decried the act of some UG cadres turning their weapons against common people even as they claimed to be fighting for the same people of the land.
Killing people and terrorising hapless civilians for the sake of a few acres of land is unbecoming of a true revolutionary, the Meira Paibi Lup observed.
It further asked whether it is acceptable for a revolutionary to threaten a Meira Paibi who has been fighting all day and night for the cause of the people.
Asking to come forward in the open for negotiation, the Poirei Ita Meira Paibi Apunba Lup maintained that threats would not deter the Meira Paibis from their justified path.
In the similar vein, the Naoriya Kendra Women Welfare Association questioned the motive behind threatening president of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur L Memchoubi by one selfidentified KYKL cadre with strong words for helping displaced families of Langol Laimanai.
Strongly condemning such high-handedness, the Association called upon all concerned to solve the issue amicably.
It clarified that the Poirei Leimarol provided refuge and help to the displaced families of Langol Laimanai in accordance to the wish of people and on humanitarian ground.
These families have already suffered death and severe casualties at the hands of unidentified persons over a land row in May this year, mentioned a release issued by the Assn.
Asserting that the Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur is not handling the land dispute case of Langol Laimanai or interfering in the matter but restraining the armed people from killing civilians for the few acres of land, the Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup has also joined the condemnation outcry against the Poirei Leimarol president.
It further termed such violent activities perpetrated by some armed cadres who have been fighting for the cause of the land very unfortunate.
In another press release, the Nagamapal Phougeishangbam Leikai Apunba Meira Paibi Marup decried the act of threatening a Meira Paibi leader for helping the people suffering displacement because of the Langol Laimanai incident and for endeavouring to bring a solution to the issue.
