Two brand new excavators brought from Guwahati were hijacked by four unidentified persons on the way to Imphal on June 24 near Kohima.
At about 6 am of June 24, the four individuals who identified themselves as cadres of an UG group halted the two excavators.
The hijackers who came in motor cycles were obviously waiting for the arrival of the excavators on the highway.
Then they took the two drivers to Capital Hotel, Kohima.
There the two drivers were locked up in a room and were threatened not to come out.
All the four hijackers were Meiteis.
They confiscated Rs 8000 from the two drivers before driving away the new excavators.
Moreover, a sum of Rs 14,800 kept in the excavators was also taken away by the hijackers who identified themselves as cadres of an UG group.
The two brand new excavators belong to CR Enterprises and BK and Sons, both located at Kakwa.
The firm has lodged a complaint at Kohima police station.
Subsequently, all the security forces including paramilitary forces were informed of the hijacking and consequently, an extensive search has been launched.
