Imphal, June 27:
Reality bites, and that's exactly what Saikul A/C MLA Doukhomang Haokip experienced today when he personally went to inspect the condition of the existing Government offices in his Constituency and saw that the toilets in the SDO office and his official quarters have been constructed commodes and safety tanks.
SDO Saikul, SDC, DI, EE of PWD, SO and leaders of Kuki Inpi Saikul accompanied the MLA during the inspection.
Soon after his arrival from Imphal, the MLA met the leaders of the local area at the office of Kuki Inpi Saikul to discuss the infra-structural requirements and other grievances of the people.
After the meeting, the MLA went to inspect the community hall constructed by the Kuki Inpi and other Government offices of the area.
The MLA was surprised when he came across that there are no Kumud and Safety tank have been put in place in the toilets of the SDO office and his quarters despite the fact that majority of the construction work have been completed.
When the visibly angry MLA demanded to know the reason, the contractor pointed out that there were no mention of these items in the work proposal.
Confronted with the reality, the MLA gave instruction to the EE and the contractor concerned for installing commodes and safety tank before the inauguration of the said buildings.
The MLA also came across that the ceiling of the office building has not been constructed properly and the flooring in the two FCS godowns crumbling.
The MLA took note of the inconveniences being faced by the passers-by due to overflowing of filth from the toilets of the community hall which are being used by the personnel of 14 AR posted at the office building of BSNL.
The MLA was also at his wits end when he found out that although the recently constructed building of the Public Health Centre at Saikul looks good from outside, there are no ceiling in all the rooms besides veranda and only two beds in the entire health care centre.
Among others, the MLA also witnessed that there are no adequate equipments in the PHC, no fencing around the campus and the gate is made of bamboo chips.
Moreover, there is no separate office building for the DI and it is functioning from an attached room of the Block Resource Centre of SSA.
Similarly the SDO office is also attached with the building of the Employment Exchange.
Black-topping of the road from Likli village to Saikul Bazar is currently underway.
People of the area have appealed to the Government for taking up necessary measures for the development of the Saikul Assembly Constituency which has been lying in neglect for long without any discrimination on whether the elected representative belongs to the Ruling or the Opposition.
