The AMADA has declared that its anti-drug campaign will be made for extensive next year by emphasising on sports and academic awareness programmes.
As in the previous year, AMADA celebrated its third foundation day as Day of Awakening Against Intoxicating Substances.
The foundation day function held at Ningthoukhong Boys High School was graced by Speaker Dr S Budhichandra as chief guest.
Speaking at the occasion, AMADA publicity and propaganda secretary Ph Abe Chanu asserted that any anti-drug campaign should focus on creating awareness about the negative impacts of drug abuse among students and youths.
As such, sports and academic awareness programmes will be organised extensively as parts of the anti-drug campaign, she said.
Listing its agenda for next year, she said that AMADA would be urging upon the Government to include a chapter on the negative impacts of drug abuse in education curriculum and also to frame a policy on checking drug abuse.
AMADA would also be checking whether pharmacies are selling drugs according to rules, Abe said.
A poster cum awareness campaign highlighting drugs with intoxicating components and high dependency rate will be launched in collaboration with doctors and experts.
AMADA would also be checking whether rehabilitation centres and NGOs related to HIV/AIDS are functioning properly or not.
Under its health care mission, AMADA would organise free medical camps far and wide.
Discussion programmes to desist those brewing liquor as a tradition from brewing liquor in commercial scale would be also conducted, Abe informed.
Moreover, leelas, dramas, street plays and pamphlets which demonstrate negative impacts of drug abuse will also be produced.
Today's function was presided by AMADA president L Tomba.
MLA Govindas Konthoujam, former Union Minister Th Chaoba, former Minister Dr M Nara, president of the United Muslim Women Development Organisation Anwari Nurjan and AMADA Bishnupur district council president RK Tombisana also attended the function as presidium members.
In his speech, Speaker Budhichandra lauded the anti-drug campaign of AMADA.
He also called upon the people to support the campaign.
The function culminated with distribution of prizes to winners of the 2nd State Level Open Boxing Championship.
