Imphal, December 20 2008:
The report of the investigation conducted by the RO into allegation of convening meeting by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh in his official bungalow in connection with the upcoming by-election to Moirang Assembly Constituency has submitted to the Election Commission.
The Commission has also ordered an inquiry into the allegation of police commandos disrupting the election campaign of the MPP candidate.
According to a reliable source, after completion of investigation into allegation of hosting election campaign in the Chief Minister's official bungalow, RO Moirang today submitted the report to the Chief Electoral Officer.
During the course of the investigation, the RO had recorded statements of the staff working in Chief Minister's Secretariat as well as that of the public of Kwakta.
Giving clean chit to Ibobi, staff of the Chief Minister's Secretariat, in their recorded statements, maintained that even if people from Kwakta had come to the Chief Minister's bungalow on the said day, the visit was not related to the by-election nor any meeting held in this connection.
They also asserted that the Chief Minister has been strictly observing the decorum of the public office.
Similarly, people of Kwakta also maintained that their visit was not related to the by-election nor were they called by the CM.
But had only gone to discuss developmental issues.
On the other hand, following the complaint lodged by MPP candidate of the by-election himself alleging that police commandos have been harassing his party workers in carrying out the election campaign, the Election Commission has given instruction to the Chief Electoral Officer of the State for conducting another inquiry into the
matter.
