Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has stated that Imphal city is the face of the State and 'we should try to keep it neat and clean'.
Speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of a two-day seminar on 'Imphal city: Today and tomorrow' organised by Workers' Union, Manipur (WUM) at State Guest House, Sanjenthong here today, the Chief Minister said that after completion of the Capital project and the High Court complex which are under construction at Chingmeirong, the office of Imphal Municipal Council would be shifted to the present site of the Assembly Secretariat and steps would be taken up for construction of a multi-storeyed parking lot at the present site of the IMC office to solve problem of parking vehicles in the city.

Expressing hope that difficulties being faced by women vendors in Khwairamband Bazar could be mitigated to a certain extent once construction of the Purana Bazar, Luxmi Bazar and Ima Keithel is over, he also said that problems of street vendors in the main market area could also be addressed.
To mitigate the problem of congestion as an outcome of many people coming to Imphal for trade and commerce, the State Government has also taken up necessary measures for setting up of satellite towns in different parts of the State, the Chief Minister disclosed.
Advising officials to convey to the Government problems the IMC is likely to confront in the maintenance of Imphal city, he stated that efforts being taken up by the Workers Union, Manipur in this regard should be appreciated and supported by all the people.
Presided over by WUM president Ningthoujam Chonminthang, the inaugural function of the seminar was also attended by Chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board E Dwijamani Singh, MLA T Mangibabu and Chairperson of Imphal Municipal Council Meinam Ongbi RK Ranisana Devi as guests of honour.
On the first day of the seminar held with eminent economist Dr N Mohendro Singh as moderator, former Chief Engineer-I of PWD E Binoykumar Singh, Joint Director of MAHUD W Bhaktaraj Singh, SP CMTW P Dhanakumar Singh and Deputy Director of Transport/Planning BK Sharma respectively spoke on the topics of 'Development of road connectivity in Imphal city', 'Urban migration in Imphal city with special reference to Inter-State labour', 'Role of police in the growth of Imphal city' and 'Traffic control, transport and parking system in Imphal city' as resource persons.
On the second and the last day of the seminar tomorrow, resource persons would touch upon the issues of development of Imphal as a modern city and problems related to pollution.
