Imphal, October 17:
Taking grim note of inordinate delay in honouring proposal for delimitation of eight segments of Manipur Assembly Constituencies clustered with Outer Manipur Parliamentary Seat without any right for contesting elections (MP), the Thoubal District Development and Demand Committee said its would highlight the people's despair to the President of India.
In case the proposed memorandum to the president do not evoke positive response and Manipur Govt do not initiate requisite processes for delimitation of these eight assembly segments within November this year the Council on behalf of electorates of these eight ACs would file a PIL in a relevant Court for appropriate legal action, said a release.
Further deploring inaction of the State representatives (MLAs) as well as the three MPs representing the State in the Indian Parliament, the people of these assembly segments would resort to various form of agitation including prohibiting the MPs from canvassing votes in these ACs during elections.
Contending that electorates of these segments comprising of Thoubal district areas and Jiribam sub-division have begun to question integrity and commitment of the MPs toward welfare of these politically deprived people, the Council demanded that the MP trio should disclose whether any MP Development Fund had been provided for development of Thoubal district or Jiribam.
It would be wiser for these MPs to refrain from election campaign activities in the two region in case the sincere appeal of the people is not reciprocated positively at the earliest, cautioned the Council.
