Students of two Government colleges in Churachandpur today took their demands for adequate teachers to the streets and later torched the effigies of Ashok Potsangbam, the State Advocate General, L Nanda Kumar Education Minister and Bharat Singh, Commissioner of Education inside the campus of CCpur Government College.
A memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner by the students of Lamka Government College and CCpur Government College alleged that despite several requests to the authorities concerned, lecturers for both the colleges were continuously in shortage.

Moreover, inspite of the shortage, 14 part-time lecturers of CCpur Govt College and 5 in Lamka Govt College were terminated forcing the colleges to down their shutters as atleast six departments in CCpur Government College and three in Lamka College were completely paralyzed due to dearth of teachers.
The representation urged the Deputy Commissioner to forward their grievances to the Chief Minister and also maintained 'it is our utmost desire to solve and meet the demands of the part-time lecturers in the interest of the students' community' so that they can peacefully resume their classes.
After taking their grievances to the streets and submitting their representation, the students gathered within the campus of Churachandpur Government College and burnt the effigies of Ashok Potsangbam, L Nanda Kumar and Bharat Singh amidst chants of 'We want teachers,' and 'Give us our teachers back.' It may be noted that the two colleges has been close ever since the state government release the termination order of part-time lecturers.
Students' Union gen secy of the two colleges on the sidelines of the rally relate their firm dedication to continue the agitation until the concern authorities make available adequate teachers for resumption of normal classes.
Besides the demand for solving the grievances of part-time lectures, CCpur govt.college students' union has been demanding the restoration of Sociology department in the college that has been disbanded since 1988.Meanwhile a terminated lecturer who visibly was dejected told this correspondent that they will compromise for nothing but a 'complete absorption' to the department as they were subjected to the most extreme form of humiliation despite repeated assurances from the government.
He also alleged that prolonged engagement of part-time lecturers by the government snapped their chances for an alternative job, adding even the most junior most amongst them had already been engaged for eight years.
