Ukhrul, December 11 2008:
Taking strong exception against the pitiable condition of Ukhrul District Hospital, Tangkhul Katamnao Shaklong, the apex body of Tangkhul students has set December 16 as the deadline for the State Government to take up necessary remedial measures.
Talking to this correspondent, TKS president Jordan Pheiray informed that on receiving scores of complaints from the poor patients who had gone to the district hospital for treatment, a Fact Finding Investigation Team (FFIT) had been constituted and surprise checks conducted at the lone Government run hospital of the District.
During the course of the surprise checking, it was found out that the administration of the hospital is in a pathetic condition.
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) was also absent from his duty as he left for Imphal for the past 5-6 days without appointing any in-charge to look after the administration of the hospital.
Moreover, it was learnt that patients coming to the hospital for emergency cases were always told to come the next day as there is no doctor in the OPD and the Casualty, the TKS president said.
Stating that the poor patients cannot afford to go to private hospitals, the student leader asserted that the state of affairs being prevailed in the hospital is an insult to the general public and a challenge to the student body.
Pointing out that it was not the first that the CMO Ukhrul has been behaving is such manner, the student leader said that earlier the CMO had been lodged in police lock up for his misbehaviour toward the Deputy Commissioner of the district.
His habitual drinking habit and total negligence of duty has also set a bad example among the staff of the hospital, the student leader alleged, adding that TKS felt that the hospital is the lifeboat of the people and so the Government should not remain mute spectator to the conduct of such irresponsible officer.
Expressing shock over the incompetency of the CMO, the student body has also appealed to the Govt for taking up necessary measures within December 16 .
Otherwise, TKS would be constraint to take up its own course of action for which it should not be blamed for the consequences, the student body warned.
