Lamka, November 02:
Hmar National Assembly (HNA) which had earlier threatened to issue quit notice on the Meitei communities in Churachandpur today announced that it has decided to defer the issue for the moment.
A press statement issued by L Sanga Information & Publicity Secretary of the HNA claimed that owing to the appeals made by several NGOs and Church leaders and an assurance made by the apex Hmar Students Association GHQ to shoulder and bear the onus of getting relief and compensation for the victims from the Government, it has decided to defer the sensitive issue for the moment after much deliberation and as a true revolutionary party.
HNA in addition stated that it will not be responsible for any undesirable incident that may occur against the Meitei community after November 2, 2006.Such incident, if any will instead be seen as the handiwork of some vested interest that is out to discredit the HNA in the eyes of the public, it said.
HNA has been mulling on the quit notice ever since its demand for adequate relief and rehabilitation for Parbung and Lungthulien villagers fell on deaf ears, it said.
The villagers are the victims of the wanton act of rapes and destruction and killing of innocent civilians by laying landmines by UNLF and KCP cadres. The now deferred threat has expired today.
