Imphal, Sep 02:
Action Committee Against Tipaimukh Project (ACTIP) has strongly denounced Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh for his alleged thoughtlessness and insensitivity to the people's wishes and desires in trying to clear the controversial Tipaimukh Dam issue through Prime Minister's office.
In a joint statement signed by its convenor Nanda Kamei and co-convenors Thokchom Ratan, Oinam Bikramjit and Kinderson Pamei, ACTIP emphatically stated that the policy of injustice, exploitation and misery for the local people in the name of development as being propagated by Dr Singh through Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh in Manipur would be resisted tooth and nail.
The joint statement asserted that Ibobi should asked Dr Singh to help in straightening out all accumulative messes on account of the inefficiency of the State Power Department officials and asked for more share of electric power generated by and from Manipur resource, if he really care for the development of Manipur and its people.
The joint statement further suggested that Ibobi can ask for dispensaries, health and education centres, inter-villages connecting roads and many more social welfare programmes for which the people of Manipur have been denied for long instead of compromising all these by constructing Tipaimukh dam.
Manipur can never be afforded to buy electric power at the rate of Rs 3 per unit to be generated from Tipaimukh dam project and plunder Manipur into bankruptcy while trying to serve the Delhi master, the ACTIP categorically stated.
It further announced that Dr Singh would be boycotted if and when he arrived in Manipur until and unless the Tipaimukh Dam project is drop for once and all.
Manipur voice is laud and clear 'No to Tipaimukh dam' and we will sharpen and simplify our stand to get the points across, it added.
