The India International Friendship Society, New Delhi conferred the Glory of India Award to the Chairman of Planning and Development Authority, Manipur K Ranjit Singh (MLA) here yesterday.
The memento given to him reads, 'Glory of India Award presented to K Ranjit Singh MLA for meritorious accomplishments in diverse fields of activities that immensely contributed for the nation's progress'.
The actual award ceremony was organised in the month of July in Delhi but he could not take part in the ceremony due to his preoccupation on the timebound completion of the beautification of Bir Tikendrajit Park in Imphal, Ranjit said here today.
In the year 2005, he was honoured with prestigious awards namely, Best Citizen Award, Indira Gandhi Shiromani Award and Glory of India Gold Medal by different organisations based in Delhi.
Talking about the development activities taken up by the Planning and Development Authority (PDA), Manipur, the Chairman said the PDA is more concerned with chalking out the plan for infrastructure development of the State.
Keeping in view of ever-increasing population and existing busy roads in Manipur, the PDA Manipur identified 74 roads ranging from Inter Village Roads to National Highways in Manipur and recommended it for widening to the State Government for future generation.
The departments concerned under the State Government started the implementation of the work.
As an implementing agency, he said that the PDA was taking up construction of Bir Tikendrajit Samadhi at Hicham Yaicham Pat, beautification of Bir Tikendrajit Park at the heart of Imphal City, Haipou Jadonang Complex at the western side Manipur Central Jail in Imphal etc.
These memorial complexes were being developed under the initiative of the Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh so that the younger generations could remember great leaders of Manipur who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Manipur.
Memorials of other great leaders of Manipur would be constructed in the days to come, he added.
Talking about the Master Plan for development of congested Imphal City, Ranjit Singh expressed that the Department of Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD) under the direct supervision of the Chief Minister was preparing a comprehensive City Development Plan for Imphal City.
The implementation of the City Development Plan would take place in the next year, he added.
The Chairman said they demolished 96 RCC structures, which walled the northern side of the historical Mapal Kangjeibung, the place where the world famous Sagol Kangjei (Polo) gave birth.
For widening of the B.T.Road, another 500 temporary structures on both sides of the road were already demolished.
The PDA removed the structures stretched on the eastern side of the DM.
