Governor Arvind Dave accompanied by special Resident Commissioner, Manipur Bhawan, New Delhi, CR Chhibber made a courtesy call on the Union Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee today to convey the wish of the people on appointment of Mukherjee as well as place before him problems besetting Manipur.
Giving a detailed account of problems related with security to the Defence Minister, the Governor expressed hope and confidence that the Defence Minister will leave no stone unturned to solve security issues that have hindered all round development of the State.
The Governor also informed the Union Minister that development projects are being grounded and benefits of investment do not reach the general public due to absence of a conducive security environment in the State.
The Governor also asked for adequate security forces and fencing of the porous Indo-Myanmar border to plug the entry and escape routes of militants operating in the State.
In reply the Minister consented to the recommendation and indicated favorable consideration at the appropriate level, said a press statement.
Dave also highlighted on the importance of restructuring and reinforcing the NEC while urging the Defence Minister to take necessary steps for implementation of NE States' recommendation to the Srivastava Committee which was constituted by the Doner Ministry to examine restructuring of the NEC.
