Imphal, June 09:
Suspected NSCN (IM) men shot and injured a forty year old man at Sora under Kakching police station while two persons, including a minor boy, were killed in separate motor accidents yesterday night.
According to sources, five armed persons identifying themselves as NSCN (IM) cadres barged into the Sora Maning Leikai residence of one Md Islamuddin when he was having dinner.
As the gunmen tried to drag Islamuddin outside, his three year old child cried out and clung onto his father.
But the gunmen managed to separate the infant and took the father outside.
As the men armed with AK-47 rifles and SLRs tried to take their captive towards Sembang paibi hillock located east of Sora, some villagers hearing the commotion filtered out of their homes.
Taking advantage of the situation, Islamuddin shook off his captors and fled with the gunmen in hot pursuit opening fire.
Islamuddin suffered bullet wound at the right side of the buttock and is currently underground treatment at RIMS Hospital.
As Kakching police station registered a case on the matter, police personnel who scoured the incident site recovered four empty cases of AK-47 and one 9 mm case.
The suspected NSCN (IM) cadres are reported to have left the scene by resorting to firing in the air.
Press sources contemplated that the incident might be linked to efforts of Islamuddin to secure the release on one Md Matalib alias Mantri from the custody of NSCN (IM) at Chandel area last year.
Meanwhile, the accident victims have been identified as Laishram Sobita (52) of Wangkhei Laishram Leikai and Soraisam Khelen (6) s/o Shamu of Kodompokpi Lamkhai.
Sobita was knocked down by a CBZ motorbike near Wangkhei Pujah Lampak while riding a bicycle at around 3.30 pm and succumbed to injuries at JN Hospital later in the day.
Khelen too died at the same hospital at around 9.30 pm where he was admitted after a passenger bus (canter) crushed the boy at Kodompokpi Lamkhai under Nambol PS at around 4 in the evening.
