Rural Development Minister Md Allauddin Khan has assured that there would be road connectivity in all the villages in both the hills and the valley districts of Manipur by 2010.Addressing a function organised by All Manipur Rickshaw Drivers and Pullers' Welfare Association at Manipur Press Club here today, the Minister said the difficulty of road communication in the villages of Manipur both in the hills and the valley would be solved by 2010 as the Union Ministry of Rural Development has sanctioned an amount of Rs 1,770 crores for development of the village roads specially in the hill districts of Manipur.
Although the Ministry has issued instructions for completion of the entire road construction work by 2009, lack of adequate manpower might come in the way of meeting the target.
Nonetheless, every possible efforts would be made for completion of the work by 2010, the Minister promised and appealed to the people for co-operation and support to the endeavour of the Government.
He also urged the people to help the Department concerned in identifying the villages which do not proper roads.
Vice Chairperson of Imphal Municipal Council Touthang and president of United Committee Manipur K Langamba were guests of honour of the function presided over by president of All Manipur Rickshaw Drivers and Pullers' Welfare Association Md Kayamuddin.
The function marked the annual presentation ceremony of financial assistance contributed from among the Association members to the surviving family members of one of the departed Association members.
For this year, the Association extended financial assistance to the surviving wife of late Ch Joychandra of Thangmeiband Lairenhajaba Leikai.
Speaking as guest of honour of the function, Langamba observed that instances of drug abuse and petty theft among the rickshaw drivers is very unfortunate.
So at the time of taking the help of any rickshaw drivers, people should know the registration numbers of the rickshaws they are hiring and find out whether the rickshaw drivers have valid driving license and the identity cards issued by the All Manipur Rickshaw Drivers and Pullers' Welfare Association.
The authority of the Imphal Municipal Council should also check the registration numbers of the rickshaws and the mode of manufacturing of the body of the rickshaws.
