Jiribam, July 27:
Intensifying the ongoing agitation in pursuance of the demand for upgrading Jiribam sub-division to a full-fledged revenue district, the volunteers of Jiribam District Demand Committee have closed down all the Government offices in the sub-division.
Many important files and documents from Government offices have also been confiscated by the volunteers even as the Committee has further threatened the Government officials with dire consequences if they were found carrying out official duties from their residences.
The Committee has warned of destroying all the seized files and documents by consigning them to flames if the SPF Government fails to give a positive response to its demand for upgrading Jiribam within July 30.The Committee has also asked the local MLA and Minister Th Debendra to step down.
Meanwhile, expressing solidarity to the demand for district status of Jiribam, members of All Jiribam Auto-Rickshaw Owners and Drivers' Association and Jiribam Small Vehicles Association jointly staged a sit-in-protest demonstration today in front of Congress Bhavan.
