Atleast two members of a gang involved in extorting money from the people by passing off themselves as members of the proscribed NSCN (K) have been reportedly rounded up by a special team of the outfit from Koirengei area last night.
Identifying the two rounded up gangsters/impostors as Dikson alias Ashan alias Bimol s/o Ningam of Phungyar and Jarbish d/o Chingthang of New Salem, Senapati district, secretary of revenue department of the outfit K Hubert informed that both of them were pulled up while coming to extort money from a medical institute last night.
The revenue secretary has also asked other gang members identified as Nanao of Moirang, Micheal of Moirang, but staying at Nepali Nungpokthabi near Mapao Thangal, Senapati district and Chanamthabam Sanatomba Singh of Koirengei to surrender to the outfit within two days along with the arms and ammunition which include two 9 mm pistols and 14 rounds in their possession and warned of dire consequences if they fail to do so.
The revenue secretary further informed that the gang had already extorted Rs 1000 from one Varyupam of Deulahlane, Rs 20,000 from one Shomi of Tangkhul Hundung, Rs 4000 from one Achan of Lamphel, Rs 2000 from one Jemesh Tangkhul of Shangakpham and Rs 30,000 from one Joy of Heingang who runs an NGO besides serving demand letter of an unspecified amount to EE Joykumar of PWD.
It has also been found out during the course of interrogation that under the leadership of Dikson alias Ashan alias Bimol, other gang members identified as Atai alias Alem of Kasom Khunou, Ukhrul; Stelling of Lairam, Senapati; Akham of Lairam, Apam of Lairam and Nganaomi alias Awung of Kasom Khunou have also been extorting money from the people by misusing the name of UNLF, the revenue secretary added.
