Imphal, November 25:
In an obvious gesture that the AICC has finally decided to do something over the revolt launched by some rebel Congress MLAs against the leadership of Chief Minister O Ibobi, AICC president Sonia Gandhi became the second political leader of the Congress to meet Governor Dr SS Sidhu yesterday after the Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil met the Governor.
Talking to The Sangai Express a dissident MLA said that the meeting with Sonia and Patil assumes great significance and while the details of what was discussed is not known, it is presumed that the talk could have centred around the law and order situation in the State, the revolt launched by the dissident MLAs and the governance or lack of it here.
To bring an end to the impasse, the AICC leadership has given enough hints that AICC in charge of North East, Prithiviraj Chauhan may be deputed to Manipur as an observer, said the dissident MLA and added that the series of meetings they have had with AICC leaders have been extremely significant.
Asserting that the observer may come to Manipur either on November 29 or 30, the rebel MLA said that until and unless the observer is sent, the rebel MLAs will continue to camp at Delhi.
Meanwhile Governor Dr SS Sidhu and MPCC (I) president Gaikhangam returned to Imphal today from Delhi after meeting AICC leaders.
They were in Delhi for the last few days.
