Claiming a series of success against the UNLF cadres ever since the operation was launched in Samtal Salient from November 18, the Assam Rifles today claimed that the area till L Dongjoi Moljoi and Phaisangjang has been cleared of the militants and is now under the control of the security forces.
In a statement, the PRO of Assam Rifles said that on the Sehlon ridge line, the area upto Phoilen has also been cleared and secured by security forces.
Bull dozers have been pressed into service to clear the road of IEDs, said the PRO and added this is under progress.
During foot treks, so far 57 IEDs have been recovered by the security forces, claimed the PRO and added that in the process of clearing the IEDs two jawans sustained injuries.
The two have been identified as Havildar Bharat Patil and Rifleman Md Iqbal and they have been shifted to Leimakhong Army Hospital.
Helicopters are being used to sustain the troops and despite the fog, rain and poor visibility and heavy 81 mm mortar fired by the militants, the security forces pressed ahead and cleared the areas, claimed the PRO and added that they have started scattering IEDs to cover their track while fleeing to Myanmar.
The operation is being conducted under the Hqs 3 Corps and IGAR (South).
