Atleast two passengers of a bus, both graduate students of GP Women's College, were killed while 13 others sustained injuries, when it collided with a truck this afternoon near Lilong-Arapti crossing along Imphal-Moreh Road.
According to police report, at around 4.05 pm, the passenger bus (MN01-0512, 3 Star) was returning from Imphal when a Tata Tipper truck (NL-04A/6680), coming from Waithou side lost control as a result of a tyre burst (front wheel) and rammed into the bus.
The impact of the collision left the bus rolling on the road side.
The two students who lost their lives in the unfortunate incident have been identified as Saikhom Romila (20) d/o Manitomba of Khangabok Part-III, Makha Leikai and Saikhom Lakshmi (20) d/o Muhindro of Khangabok Part-II, Maisnam Leikai.
Both were students of BA Ist year in GP Women's College, Imphal.
They were returning home in the ill-fated bus when the accident occurred.
Among the injured, 7 are male and 6 are female passengers.
Two of the injured are husband and wife.
Rojita, sister of deceased Romila fainted on seeing the body of her younger sister at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital and she was subsequently treated at the casualty ward.
Rojita is a nurse trainee in the hospital and came to the mortuary along with other staff nurses on hearing the news of the accident.
Medical Superintendent of RIMS, Dr Y Mohen visited the injured passengers and assured that necessary investigations would be conducted free of charge.
