Imphal, August 24 2009:
Chief of department of publicity, RPF GM Changjou has clarified that Salam Deban Singh (35) s/o Salam Iboyaima of Nongmaikhong Mayai Leikai and his wife Salam Ongbi Memocha Devi (34), whom the Imphal West Police claimed to have been arrested for hiding the arms and ammunition of RPF/PLA, have no connection with the proscribed outfit at all.
Though the arms and ammunition recovered by the police have been left behind by some RPF/PLA cadres out of unavoidable circumstances, it would be unfair to dub the couple as UGs just because some arms and ammunition have been recovered from their house.
If that is the case, then all the MLAs and Ministers from whose quarters arms and ammunition have been seized during combing operations at Babupara sometime back should also be considered as UGs.
Coming out strongly against the detention of 11-year old Salam Bidyarani in police custody as her parents could not be arrested, Changjou said such conducts are in contravene to the established humanitarian laws.
Public understand the real motive behind the detention of the young girl child.
It if was really meant for medical treatment then she could have been taken to RIMS or JN Hospital.
Changjou further clarified Md Warish Khan (35) s/o Md Riyajudin of Thoubal Moijing, who the PRO IGAR (South) claimed to have been arrested in a statement August 21 and Oinam Lukhoi (40) of Yumnam Yuidrom Khunyai Leikai but staying at Keishampat Mutum Leikai reportedly arrested by a combined force on August 14 have no connection whatsoever with RPF/PLA.
It would be advisable on the part of the Manipur Police to give up the old habit of arresting innocent people and dubbing them as UGs, Changjou added.
