Imphal, August 24 2009:
Two girl students were killed and nearly 20 other persons were injured when the bus they were travelling in collided head on with a tipper truck this evening around 4.10 at Lilong Arapti Lamkhai Heinoumakhong on the Indo-Myanmar road.
The Kakching bound bus (MN01-0512) which left Imphal with passengers this afternoon collided head on with the tipper truck (NL04/A6680) coming from the opposite side.
Before the truck collided with the bus, it had a punctured tyre in the right wheel in the front.
The bus turned turtle when it was rammed into by the truck which was fully loaded with earth.
The two deceased girl students were identified as Miss Saikhom Romila @ Ibem (19), daughter of S Mani of Khangabok part-III Makha Leikai and Miss Saikhom Somi@ Laxmi (19), daughter of S Muhindro of Khangabok Part-II Meishnam Leikai.
They were students of GP Women's College studying in TDC 1st year.
They were returning home from college.
Among those injured were Nongthombam (O) Memma (63) of Kakching Mairenbam, Sarangthem Sanatombi (45) of Kakching Khunyai, Ningthoujam Subota (37) of Heirok part-II, Maibam Indira (60) of Tekcham, Khullem Shyamkumar (33) of Khongjom Sapam Mayai Leikai, Khuraijam Brojendro (29) of Wabagai Keirak, Soibam Tama (28) of Khongjom Tekcham, Md Abdul Salam (35) of Lilong Hangam Thabi and Yengkhom Henry (35) of Kakching Makha Leikai.
They have been brought to RIMS hospital while some others were treated at Lilong Primary Health Centre.
