Protest demonstration against the arrest of four members of All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) by the police continued to be held at different parts even as public demand for unconditional release of the arrested members gains momentum.
At Sangaithel Keithel, a large number of women-folks from Sangaithel, Karong and Canchikhul staged a wakat meepham demanding release of the arrested AMADA members.
Decrying the police action in arresting the four AMADA members and later sending them to jail, a public meeting cum Wakat Meeting attended by Meira Paibis and representatives of local clubs of Uchiwa Naga Kabui Village, Uchiwa Wangbal,, Uchiwa Awang Leikai and Uchiwa Wangma was held at Uchiwa Awang Leikai Community Hall today.
After the protest session cum meeting, the effigies of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, Health Minister P Parijat and OC of Lamlai Police Station were set on fire in fire in protest.
At Oinam Lamkhai, womenfolks of the area staged a similar protest demonstration.
They used placards and festoons inscribed with slogans demanding release of the arrested AMADA members immediately and hailing AMADA.
At Samurou Keithel too, people of the area organised a wakat meepham over the same demand.
Afterward, the effigies of Chief Minister and OC of Lamlai Police Station were also burnt.
The four AMADA members were arrested by the police and later send them to jail in connection with allegedly thrasking a policeman during their anti-liquor drive.
