A day long programme on 'Promoting Access' organised by Manipur Network of Positive People, Thoubal, was held at Thoubal today.
The programme sponsored by Indian Network of Positive People (INP+) is part of the wider campaign being launched in 102 districts of six HIV high prevalent states in India.
Speaking at the function MLA Y Surchandra while encouraging doctors to take initiative in tackling the issue of HIV/AIDS promised to extend support wherever necessary.
Citing the case of Barefoot doctors of China, he urged doctors of the state to adopt a humane approach in addressing not only HIV/AIDS but also other health issues.
"If there is a problem there also has to be a solution and it is our collective responsibility to improve existing services and make it easily accessible to those who need it", he added.
Appreciating the initiative taken by Manipur Network of Positive People (MNP+) in the state RK Dinesh, District Commissioner, underlined the importance of public-private partnership in tackling the issue of HIV/AIDS.
While appealing PLHAs to be patient on installation of a CD4 counting machine the DC summoned a meeting of the District AIDS Committee (DAC), Thoubal, to look into issues like inclusion of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) in the DAC, possibility of providing nutritional support under existing schemes and programmes, facilities for various clinical investigations in the district and other issues related to HIV/AIDS.
During the discussion session, members of MNP+, Thoubal, highlighted the lack of facilities for various clinical investigation and the difficulties they face in accessing services from centers based in Imphal.
Though anti-retroviral drugs for ART center, Thoubal have arrived, the centre is yet to start dispensing drugs due to lack of facilities for pre-ART clinical investigations.
