Goods worth around Rs 20 lakh carrying in a Imphal bound truck looted at Chumukedima of Nagaland on the NH-39 even as another Imphal bound truck carrying iron rods hijacked at Senapati on the same stretch of the highway in Manipur section.
Around seven armed miscreants looted goods worth around Rs 20 lakhs from a Imphal bound Tata Truck near Saath mile (7th mile) in Dimapur on Friday last (March 19) while the truck carrying iron rods was hijacked yesterday evening from Senapati area by suspected underground activists, reports received here said.
A total of 123 cartons of Bajaj electrical goods, 71 batteries and invertors, 31 GRL tyres and tubes, 16 pressure cookers, 9 washing machines, 23 cartons of Reynold pens, and 18 packets of Tata Indicom BTS equipments carrying were looted in the looting incident occurred at 7th mile near Dimapur, the report said.
The looted the truck bearing registration no.AS 01 BC-5471 was coming from Guwahati with a consignment from Ankit Road Lines, Guwahati towards Imphal on the NH-39 at Chumukedima area by some six armed persons after forcibly stopped the vehicle.
After stopping the truck, the driver and handyman were forced to step down from the vehicle and leaving behind the two at Chumukedima, the miscreants with guns took the second driver, Ayas Khan, towards 7th mile and kept him blindfolded there.
They engaged another driver for driving the vehicle and proceeded to an unknown destination.
They off-loaded the goods from the truck and freed at sixth mile near a petrol pump there where Ayas Khan was left behind, the report added.
An FIR case was registered by the police on March 20 last, the report added.
Another reports said that a truck ferrying iron rod from Dimapur to Imphal bearing registration no.NL01G-0737 was also hijacked by armed persons suspected to be undergrounds activists from Senapati area while heading towards Imphal yesterday evening.
