Sonia Gandhi invited for inauguration of Ema Market: Minister Biren

The ground work of Naga Nullah Project for making Imphal a clean city to be taken up under the Jawaharlal Nehru Renewal Energy Urban Mission (JNRUM) has started from today.
On the first day of the commencement of the project, IFCD Minister, N Biren along with officials of the department inspected the site where his department is to take up works as component of the Naga Nullah project.
Clearance of the bank of the Naga River using JCP and Tata Tippers has started for the construction of retaining wall on the sides of the river.
The project costing Rs 24 crore started taken up today has two components.
The first component extends from Khoyathong to Babuthong.
The implementation works of the component will be taken up by the state Planning Development Authority (PDA).
While the portion from Thong Nambolbi to Keishampat Bridge included in the second component will be implemented by the IFC Department as implementing agency.
The second component which started ground work from today include keeping clean the portion from Thong Nambol upto Keishampat with beautification and covering of some portion with RCC plates the river with retaining wall on both side of the bank for making parking place.
While taken up the project, a river will be keep at width of 23 meter to bear with the water capacity in the pick season.
All the public cremation grounds except one at a selected proper place will be taken out.
The public toilet complex at Waheng Leikai will also be taken out.
In an interaction with Hueiyen Lanpao, state IFCD minister, N Biren said, the Centre has released funds for implementation of the first phase of the project.
Erection of retaining wall as part of the project is targeting to complete before the onset of the next rainy season, at the latest by June.
For the time being the works will be handled by his department, Biren said stating that the work will be handed over to a company later.
A able company is needed to select for the project as it has to be taken up in the congested city area, Biren opined.
Minister Biren who is also the spokespersons of the SPF government further said that during the recent visit of the Chief Minister at national capital, Sonia Gandhi, chairperson of the UPA government has been invited to visit the state by May this year.
There is confidence that she will come.
Chief Minister invited Sonia Gandhi for inaugurating the three Ema Market and handover to the people.
Before her visit, IFCD is targeting to keep the city clean, he said.
The Naga Nullah project started taken up from today is design and prepared by the Li Company working under the Union Ministry of Water Resources.
The project will able to keep clean the Imphal city apart from beautification, Biren confidently said.
