Imphal, March 23 2010:
Though the government has repeatedly said that it is not in a position to pay the thousands of its employees two years' arrears, the government is reported to be considering paying the employees at least one year's arrears.
A reliable source said that meetings of the Pay Implementation Committee held yesterday and today under the chair of Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur, DS Poonia discussed if one year's arrears are to be paid to the employees, how much money would be spent and from which head it would be paid, etc.
However, the meetings did not take a concrete resolution, the source said.
Yet high level officials feel that if the government pays off at least one year's arrears, the ceasework strike could be ended.
In the meanwhile, the source said that the authorities have not been able to complete working out the salaries of the employees under the new pay scales of the 6th Pay Commission.
It may be noted here that the ceasework strike of the employees of the Government of Manipur spearheaded by the JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO is being intensified with the Manipur Electricity Employees' Union (MEEU) planning to join the strike from March 31 .
The MEEU has appealed to the government to fulfill the demands of the employees before the deadline of March 31 .
