Jiribam, March 23 2010:
Jiribam bandh called by various civil organisations of Jiribam in protest against the arrest of two journalists and a social activist by Imphal East police commandos continued today too.
Like yesterday, vehicles stayed off roads while all markets and business establishments remained shut.
Local Meira Paibis also took out a protest rally shouting slogans against police commandos.
The rally which started from near the gate of Jiribam ADC's bungalow proceeded to the ADC office and gheraoed Jiribam police station.
The Meira Paibis numbering around 500 shouted slogans against police in front of the police station.
They also used placards which read "We condemn arrest of innocent persons", "Down with commandos", "Repeal AFSPA" etc.
Jiribam based journalists Moirangthem Romeo (36), Atom Lukhoi (28) and social activist Mutum Maipaksana (38) were arrested by commandos from their respective houses in the wee hours yesterday.
The trio have been taken to Imphal East District Police Headquarters today, said a police source.
