Imphal, November 12:
Considering the prevailing situation in the State, it has become a foregone conclusion that the Congress led SPF Government would not be elected to power again after the 9th Assembly elections, said president of BJP Manipur State unit Dr Haobam Borbabu while addressing a political conference at the home of Thangmeiband A/C MLA M Bhorot.
The conference was organised by the BJP Thangmeiband Mandal.
Observing that the Congress party had lost most of its support bases in the hill districts while there is a strong anti-Congress movement in the valley, Borbabu predicted that it would be a big surprise if even 10 Congress candidates can win in the forthcoming elections.
He noted that there would be no more Congress or Congress led Government in the State.
Acknowledging the new environment in which BJP State unit can now work freely, Borbabu remarked that the people of the State want to test BJP by electing the party to power following the improvement of the party's position all over the country.
As such, there is a strong possibility of BJP led Government in the State after the Assembly elections, asserted the BJP State unit president.
Saying that people no longer seriously take the claim that NCP would come to power in the State and its candidate would be elected from the Thangmeiband Assembly constituency, he asserted that people don't have any faith in the NCP president and the former Chief Minister of Manipur.
Addressing the conference general secretary of the BJP State unit Prof S Tiken observed that every individual found it hard to accept that the law and order situation has improved in the State.
It is only the Congress party which has been making the false claims, he contended.
Saying that many other political parties which were there in the SPF Ministry at its initial period have been absorbed by the Congress party, Tiken alleged that the Congress party was bereft of any political morality.
Taking a dig at the claim of the Congress that it was able to establish a stable Government for full five years, he noted that it was only because of the Anti-Defection Law which was passed under the Prime Ministership of BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Taking part in the political conference, the BJP co-ordinator of Nagaland and Manipur Avinash Kohli attributed the development programmes initiated in the Thangmeiband A/C to the sincerity of MLA Bhorot and his concern for the welfare of people.
He added that there is a need to elect Bhorot again so as to enable him take up new welfare projects for the people of the constituency.
In his speech, M Bhorot said that there was a necessity to evaluate the utilisation of funds released by the Union Govt to the State Government during 2002-06.
