Agriculture Minister Ph Parijat has announced that a new variety of paddy called Pari has been produced.
The Minister was speaking as chief guest of the day-long soil testing awareness programme organised under the aegis of Agriculture Officer (Chemistry) of Department of Agriculture at Irabot Memorial Hall at Challou, Lamlai today.
Parijat said the new paddy breed could be harvested within 100 to 110 days of its plantation and it is suitable for cultivation both in semiarid and swampy fields.
Stressing on the need to give up the old method and adopt new technology in cultivation by the farmers, the Minister said it is essential to increase production in view of the growing population.
While pointing out that the awareness programme is being organised for the benefit of the farmers, he also appealed to them to test the soil of the field before planting anything.
Afterward officials from CAU spoke on various topics related to agriculture and productivity.
