Imphal, November 12:
Saying that he is a Manipuri born in Manipur and he would like to learn Meetei Mayek, Chief Minister O Ibobi pointed out the demerits of things done in haste.
Arson and vandalisation of public properties just because their desires were not fulfilled cannot be justified, he added.
Reminding that one can't eat with both hands even if one has been starving for long, Ibobi spelt out the difficulties in adopting a resolution at the official level.
Speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of a community hall constructed under MP Local Area Development Fund at Thoubal Leishangthem, the Chief Minister said that even though he would love to learn Meetei Mayek as a Manipuri, there were certain difficulties in pursuing the matter in haste.
Activities of arson for any reason whatsoever could never be justified, noted the Chief Minister while observing that any issue or misunderstanding can be sorted out through talks and negotiations.
He disclosed that more than 1000 teachers have been trained for implementation of Meetei Mayek adding that more teachers would be trained to teach the script.
However, he observed that other communities need to be taken into confidence and their sentiments respected.
Recalling that the burning down of State Central Library was the most outrageous thing ever committed in the history of modern Manipur, the Chief Minister contended that the resolutions adopted by the State Government were taken after seeking the opinions and views of all concerned.
Noting that things are far more easily said than done, Ibobi said that torching of public properties for non-fulfilment of demands within the deadline set were works of anti-social elements.
Touching on the controversial project, Ibobi informed that the Tipaimukh Project has been approved by the Public Investment Board (PIB) and the Loktak Down-stream Project would also be approved on November 20.He added that the Prime Minister has also agreed to lay the foundation of the Tipaimukh project.
The inaugural function of the community hall constructed at the cost of Rs 10 lakhs was also attended by MP Dr T Meinya, Speaker Maniruddin Sheikh and Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam.
