The anti-drug and alcoholism drive being launched by Committee on Anti-Drug and Alcoholism (CADA) in association with various other social organisations with the main objective of making Manipur a drug free society has been gaining momentum day by day.
Intensifying the ongoing drive, volunteers of Thoubal District United Women's Development Organisation and United People's Administrative Council which are extending full support to CADA, have seized a large quantity of illicit liquor, ingredients required for brewing and the vessels used for the purpose from different parts of Thoubal district during a drive launched yesterday and the same were destroyed by setting them on fire at Wabagai Bazar today.
Apart from illicit liquor, the seizure include Yuchak, Chadon, Hamei and vessels.
The total monetary value of the seizure which had been consigned to flame is estimated to be around 60,000 in the market.
Talking to mediaper-sons at the occasion, the anti-drug and alcoholism campaigners formed that the drive was launched at Tekcham, Kakching and Sapam area of Thoubal district yesterday.
At Tekcham Mayai Leikai, they seized 15 litres of illicit liquor, 9 tinful of Yuchak, 5 Korphus and 2 silver containers from one Manjuri (40) w/o Maibam Gameshol while 3 tinful of Yuchak and two silver vessels from one Mangol (40) w/o Chingtham Kokngang during the drive Tekcham Mamang Leikai.
The anti-drug campaigners also seized 3000 pieces of Hamei (fermenting agent) and one tube from one Mangalambi (30) w/o Thongam Kunjabihari besides 6000 pieces of Hamei, three Phouras, one Kompak, one Korphu, one Sumbal and one Thumok (basket) from one Tukeshwar (40) s/o Thongam Thabalngou during the drive launched at Tekcham Khongnang Ani Karak.
The drive at Kakching Khullakpam Leikai yielded with seizure of 10 litres of liquor from one Birachandra (60) s/o late Moirangthem Biramangol.
Thirteen Korphus of Yuchak, 11 litres of liquor, 50 pieces of Hamei, two silver vessels, one kettle, one Korphu, one Chengphu (rice pot) and one bag of Chadon were seized from Kumar (34) s/o Wangkhem Achou, his younger brother Inao (28) and Latamani (45) w/o Soibam Mera during the drive launched at Sapam Mamang Leikai.
The anti-drug campaigners also launched the drive at Tekcham Laibung Leikai and seized altogether 95 empty Yuchak tins, 3000 pieces of Hamei, 50 kgs of Yuchak, one plate, two Korphus, one Khudeng and 19 other silver vessels from the possession of Sanakhomba (60) s/o Langpoklakpam Ingo, Jadu (70) s/o Langpoklakpam Samu and his younger brother Khomei, all of whom are in the business of brewing liquor.
Meanwhile, publicity secretary of CADA Premjit Kshetrimayum informed that a large quantity of intoxicants including liquor, Khaini, Raja, Zarda and Talap seized by CADA volunteers during drive launched at different parts of Bishnupur district have been consigned to flame.
