Even as the Principal Secretary (Home) has instructed the State police to keep strict vigil against any arson or destructive activity in view of the violent agitation of MEELAL against the ongoing process of primary teacher recruitment, the quarters of the Khuman Lampak power sub-station were totally destroyed by a raging fire.

The origin of the fire cannot be ascertained as yet.
However, the CO of 2nd IRB stationed within the complex of the sub-station said that the incident of fire was not related to the ongoing agitation of MEELAL.
It is reported that the fire broke out at around 6.30 pm and raged on for about half an hour.
Even as the IRB personnel present in the complex put in their best efforts to douse the fire, they could not control the razing fire.
Later three fire tenders of Manipur Fire Service arrived and put off the fire.
Besides consuming the 70 feet long quarters of the power sub-station, the fire also damaged furniture items, almirahs, official documents kept in the rooms adjacent to the quarters.
Moreover, the PHED office located just near the wall of the power sub-station was also partially damaged by the fire.
Even though the cause of the fire could not be confirmed as yet, it has been leant that the fire broke out from a room of the quarters belonging to the power sub-station, informed a source of the Manipur Fire Service.
