Challenging the ongoing campaign of AMADA against drug abuse and alcoholism, AMADA volunteers were reportedly threatened, abused with offensive words and in some cases physically assaulted by some bootleggers, liquor suppliers, liquor consumers and their accomplices.
As a result of such assaults, some of the AMADA volunteers are currently undergoing treatment at RIMS in critical conditions.
A statement issued by AMADA head office disclosed that such incidents occurred at Khangabok, Ething, Kakyai and Samurou.
In the Khangabok incident which occurred on October 30, the following persons were involved in threatening, assaulting and abusing AMADA volunteers with filthy words.
Moiranthem Kulabidhu (45), Moiranghtem Naba (40), Moiranghtem Paka (42), Thouchom Megha (37), Saikhom Shyamkanhai (32), Moirangthem Singhajit (34), all belong to Khangabok Mayai Leikai and Ningthoujam Ranjit (38) of Khangabok part II, Thokchom Raju (30) of Khangabok part III Sorok Wangma and Saikhom Samjai (37) of Khangabok part II Lamlong Bazar.
In the Ething incident which took place on November 5 and 6, following persons were involved; Moirangthem Tomba (30) of Sendra, Khwairakpam Laingam (28), Khwairakpam Biren (40) and Khwairakpam Samjai (25), all belonging to Ething Mamang Leikai.
At Kakyai, the following persons were involved in assaulting and threatening AMADA volunteers on November 7.Sougrakpam Tombi (34), Sougrakpam Shantijao (30), Ngangom Amujao (25), Ngangom Brojen (34), Ngangom Tomba (30), Ngangom Sanjoy, Ngangom Jemsbon, Ngangom Khamba all belonging to Kakyai Mamang Leikai, Thangmaijam Goroba of Kakyai and Ngangom Gopal of Kakyai.
For the incident of assaulting and intimidating AMADA volunteers at Samurou, the following persons were the culprits.
Sapam Khomei (56), Sapam Maipak (45), Sapam Amungou (18), Sapam Kiran (27) of Samurou and Naorem Brojen (37) of Naorem Chaprou Samurou.
While summoning all these individuals to the head office of AMADA, the statement also appealed to the people to award them befitting punishment for the sake of future generations.
