Lamka, November 10:
Demanding that the Government immediately improve the roads connecting Lamka and Aizawl besides Singngat and Behiang, three transport organizations have imposed an indefinite bandh on the said roads with effect from today.
A press release issued by the Lamka to Aizawl Transport Co-operative Society, Lamka to Behiang via Singngat Line Bus Owners Association and Lamka to Sinzawl Line Bus Owners Association said that the two roads were neglected over the ages inspite of the crucial links they serve.
Despite the announcement made by the Chief Minister on more than three occasions that funds for improvement of the said roads were already sanctioned, there is no effort to repair or improve the roads they charged.
Meawhile, Dam Action Committee in a separate statement said that a bandh was imposed since midnight of Thursday on the Tedim Road extension of Lamka and Singngat.
The bandh will also include any activities related to Khuga Dam but security, medical and other essential services will be exempted from bandh purview, G Lex, Volunteer Commander of DAC said.
Being the lifeline of many interior villages and an essential link with She state of Mizoram the roads on which bandhs have now been imposed were negotiated by numerous Sumos, Trucks and Buses on a daily basis including the inter-State transporters despite the fact that it was deplorable.
The bandh, possibly the first of its kind in the district, being imposed during the harvest season will only add to the impediment of hundreds if not thousands of people.
