The driver of the bus with registration number MN01-0549 seized by the RPF for transporting 20 cases of foreign liquor from Moreh to Imphal on February 12 surrendered to the outfit today.
The driver is identified as Khupkam Khongsai alias Kamboi (37) s/o Thangja Khongsai of Litan, Ukhrul district, but staying currently at Moreh.
Parading Khupkam Khongsai before media persons at a location in Churachandpur district today, a spokesperson of the RPF's Department of Communication and Publicity said that Khupkam Khongsai was a driver of another.
He drove the bus with foreign liquor on February 12 as there was no one to drive the bus on the day.
Even though he committed the mistake of not checking the goods he was transporting, there was no major fault on his part which deserves punishment, said the spokesperson.
Saying that no one has come forward to claim the goods seized along with the liquor till date, the spokesperson again intimated the owners to claim their articles on or before March 15.After the deadline, the outfit will not bear responsibility for the articles currently in its custody, the spokesperson asserted.
Before the media persons, driver Khupkam Khongsai declared that he will accept whatever punishment RPF may give to him in case he is found transporting or helping import of liquor or other banned items from Moreh.
